Description:
Ignite your creativity and artistic intuition through a process-based exploration of artistic media! Over this six week course, participants will have the chance to get their hands dirty with basic drawing, painting, and sculpture techniques, and play with basic elements of art such as line, shape, colour, and light. Intended for both complete beginners or seasoned creatives looking for a boost of fresh inspiration, we’ll befriend our inner artistic child and tap into our sense of play, curiosity, and discovery.
 
What You’ll Learn:
How to let go of your inner critic through a series of games and process-based activities meant to tap into your intuition and creative flow.
Learn how to work with a variety of art supplies, including acrylic paints, watercolour, and air dry clay.
Play with the basic elements of art, including line, shape, and, space, and colour.
Have a space to foster connection with your fellow creatives through collaborative games and discussion prompts.
 
About the Artist:
Mirka Loiselle is a multidisciplinary artist and arts educator, working primarily in illustration, drawing, and painting media. Their artwork straddles the boundary between abstraction and illustration, featuring bright colours, bold lines, and a playful flow of intertwined shapes and images. As an educator, Mirka is passionate about bringing a sense of joy and curiosity to the artistic process.

 
Weekly Plan:
Week 1: Intuitive Doodling
Starting with a series of drawing games and prompts meant to unlock your inner creative flow, participants will play with the concepts of line, shape, and space to create abstract drawings. We’ll leave the class with a pop-up doodle book showing off our new artworks.
 
Week 2: Watercolour Flow
Picking up from our exploration in the first class, participants will more closely examine the concept of positive & negative space, and create a free-flowing abstract composition. We’ll then learn some basics of how to work with watercolour paints and pencils, and add colour to our artwork.
 
Week 3: Playing with Paint
Get creative with acrylic paints! We’ll touch on some basics of colour theory and painting techniques before driving into some prompts intended to get us exploring and playing with the medium. Participants will have the chance to create a work of art in collaboration with other students in the class.
 
Week 4: Make it Pop
This class invites us to break away from the limits of two dimensional media, and play in three dimensions! Participants will be introduced to lightweight air dry clay as a medium, and explore how to incorporate it into their paintings to add depth, dimension, and texture to their artworks.
 
Week 5: Neon Magic
This class takes participants into a deeper dive into the magic & science of colour theory by inviting them to play with coloured lights, blacklight, and fluorescent art materials.
 
Week 6: Embrace Your Creative Voice
In this final class, participants will get a chance to put the finishing touches on any project from throughout the course, or choose to play with any combination of materials, skills, and techniques from previous weeks. We’ll end with a reflection on where this creative journey has taken us.
