Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Objectives:
- Master a new watercolour technique each week.
- Build foundational skills progressively.
- Develop confidence and creative expression.
Flat & Gradient Washes
- Warm-up: Practice creating smooth, even washes and blending gradients.
- Focus: Brush control, even application, and blending techniques.
Wet-on-Wet Technique
- Warm-up: Experiment with blending colours on wet paper.
- Focus: Preserving highlights and achieving strong contrasts, soft edges, smooth transitions, and lifting techniques.
Masking/Preserving Highlights & Dry Brush/Textures
- Warm-up: Use masking fluid and tools to preserve details. Explore dry brush strokes and creating textures.
- Focus: Adding detail, texture, and fine lines.
Layering & Glazing
- Warm-up: Build transparent layers over a base wash.
- Focus: Creating depth and dimension through glazing.
Course Outcomes:
- Learning essential watercolour techniques.
- A strong foundation for creating independent artwork.
- Increased confidence and creativity in watercolour painting.
*Credit will be offered for absences with one week's prior notice. If you are feeling unwell, we will happily reschedule
*Returning students are welcome to start their self-directed project at their leisure, or ask to be given an assignment.
